Testimonials from Patients
Why are there no patient testimonials or photos on our website.
The medical community is bound to adhere by the standards set by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). This organisation is responsible for the registration and accreditation of 10 health professions across Australia including the Medical Board of Australia. AHPRA is responsible for the Code of Conduct regarding Advertising of these 10 health professions.
AHPRA specifically prohibits the use of Testimonials or purported Testimonials and also the display of “Before” and “After” images.
The reasons are simple ~
- For Testimonials there is no way of the public checking their validity and so they can potentially be very misleading.
- AHPRA states the reason that “Before’ and “After” photographs are prohibited is that these photos have “a significant potential to be misleading or deceptive, to convey to a member of the public inappropriately high expectations of a successful outcome and to encourage the unnecessary use of health services”.
"Because of the above mentioned AHPRA policy I do not have Testimonials or “Before” and “After” images or photographs of patients on my website and any medical website that does is contravening the Medical Board regulations as expressed through the AHPRA." ~ Dr Paul Varcoe | More about Dr Varoce
